The ideal solution!
By Paul Hart
The unit arrived on time and I was pleased with the compact size and ease of movement with the rollers on the bottom. Simple instructions that get you up and running quickly. I used a standard clothes dryer exhaust vent from the local hardware store that matches perfectly the supplied flex exhaust hose with the unit. Cut a small hole in wall for drain hose (needed for heater) and was set to go. This unit cools extremely well...heat pump avoids the flame or hot wires found in space heaters. Ideal for small room comfort. I have been very pleased in both
hot and cold outside temps with this compact and lightweight unit. A smart buy for anyone who wants quality and simplicity.

Gets the Job Done!
By Lauren Larson
I did a lot of research before choosing to get this unit. I was gonna buy another model from the local Abt store and have it delivered, but the salesman was so rude I decided against it. He basically was trying to talk me out of getting one, saying they didn't work as well as a regular window unit. Duh. Truth is, I gave away a new aircon when I moved here because there was a unit in the window. Big mistake. It was a piece of crap -- barely worked at all. I vowed to get a portable one for convenience sake.
Then the Abt guy told me that it took hours to assemble the exhaust for the window. That may have been for their units, but I didn't find that at all. In fact, setup for this unit could not have been easier.
I toyed with getting a more powerful aircon but went with this since it was for such a small space. I was right since this space is probably not more than 400 or so sq ft. Because it's been relatively nice out here in Chicago - I haven't had the need until a few weeks ago - mid June. Then didn't need it until mid July.
I watched a YouTube video to get an idea of how these machines work. All I had to do was twist the exhaust tube onto the machine and then the window piece. No cutting and I didn't even really need to use the screws for the adapter into the window. The adapter just slides in according to size and stays in place on its own. No gaps, either. I savor my windows so I'll be removing it every chance I get because I'd rather have fresh air when I can get it.
I keep the bathroom door ajar and I notice it is stuffy in there, which I don't care about. When I turned it on I could feel the cool air and instantly felt it working. It worked really quickly in cooling the room down and it also carried over to the adjacent room.
I chose this unit for a few other reasons besides great reviews on other sites. One was because it has automatic recycling of water so that even though it is humid, it probably wouldn't need to be drained very much. I was concerned that other units may not work thru the night without needing to be emptied often. This one had so little water draining that I was really surprised. The humidity here generally tops 70% so I was kind of expecting it to shut down and need to be emptied. So far, haven't needed to do that at all. I keep the drain tube on it with a small tray that is parallel on top of a towel behind the unit. I found that when the tube is removed sometimes some water drips out, so the towel catches it.
Today I waited all day long before I finally turned it on in the evening. You're really supposed to do it earlier, but this works fine for me. The room started out at 88 degrees - there was no longer a breeze outside and the fan just wasn't cutting it. Less than an hour later, this little hotbox I live in was much cooler. It's a couple of hours later and the thermostat on the unit says 81 degrees. I know that doesn't seem like much, but it feels much cooler in here. I generally like it around 70 or so but for some reason this feels very cool to me.
I'm fairly close to the unit and then I have a mid sized oscillating fan blowing near it so that's probably why. It will be interesting to see just how cool it gets in here. I'll update the review tomorrow. I plan on running it all night since it's supposed to be around 84 by around 10 a.m.
I turned on the heater just to see if it worked when I received it. Haven't used it yet but bet it works just fine. I have gas heat here but figured it would be nice to have something for when I move or need a little heat on an unseasonably cold day before the landlord turns on heat in late Oct or Nov. I like it cooler than most people so doubt I'll use that much in this space. I'm thinking it will come in handy to use in a larger space and just heat the areas I'm in rather than wasting electricity for the entire place.
I'm one of those people who watches the temperature like a hawk because I love fresh air. So if the temp dips after a nice blast of rain or at night, the humidity isn't a killer and I get a gorgeous Lake Michigan breeze (I'm just a block off the lake) - it's open window time for me! This unit is a snap to roll across the room behind the chair - so that works well. People with limited space will find this unit very easy to manage. It's heavy to lift but I don't plan on doing that much at all.
As long as you don't expect this unit to do more than it was made to, i.e., cool down a place like a window unit would - I'm sure anyone would be pleased. As a personal aircon -- it really works great. It's not meant to cool off an entire 1 bedroom apt or anything. But it sure works well in a small room. It's a little noisier than I would have liked, but that's no big deal for me and a small price to pay to be cool and comfortable during this heat wave! I hope all of this info helps - I like to be as specific as I can in reviews so that people can get a good sense of what they're getting!

UPDATE! Very pleased to report that I've had this unit running now for several days straight - we're having a nasty heat wave here in Chicago. The heat has been relentless in the 90s that feels like 100 with the humidity. In fact, there is a heat advisory today. The unit has been recycling the water from the humidity such that I have not seen a drop in the pan. I love that the vent has a directional function so you can send the air where you want it - up, down, sides, etc. For instance, when I'm near my desk, I have it blowing toward there. Sofa -- that's another direction. And I have a mid-size oscillating fan tower that helps blow the cool air around. I usually like to use that fan alone, but it would do nothing for this heat!
Also - I have casement windows which are lovely, but they don't seem to seal up the place like regular windows do - so with regular windows - this unit may work even better. The thermostat stays from 80-83 - but again -- feels like 75 in here to me. When the sun is shining brightly I have the shades down and all doors closed. When I don't care to fiddle with the air direction, I sometimes wear a chill its cooling towel like a shawl around bare shoulders. Just fantastic! Between the aircon and the towel, I am as comfortable as could be!

It doesn't work
By Leigh C lark
I unpacked it and plugged it in and got an error message that the reservoir was full. I followed the instructions on how to clear the error but nothing worked . Even though it is under warranty the company sent me instructions on how to disassemble the case to find the reservoir sensor switch. no instructions on what to do when I found it or how to determine if it is defective. I'm afraid if I take it apart it will void the warranty so I am searching for a qualified repair person to assess and fix the issue. It will be on my dime I'm sure
