Best lilttle heater for a big room...
By E. Dekur
This is such a great little heater!
It really pushes out lots of heat for such a little thing, likely because it's ceramic.
It is tip-proof and cold-bodied -- exactly what I need in a space heater.
My bedroom is 15' x 11' and it heats the whole thing in no time flat, never getting hot on the bottom or sides.
I plain love it!

Good, but not great - POOR THERMOSTAT
By Lynne H. Irwin
Update - one year later. Heater is still "working," but my complaint about the thermostat is even stronger. The "thermostat" has evolved into an on-off switch. The heater is either always running, or not running at all. It is not possible to find the middle of the deadband, becasue it does not have one. So my room swings between too warm and too cold, as I have to control the heater manually. Fan is still what I would call too noisy.

I have reduced my rating from three to two stars. I cannot recommend that anyone buy this this heater.

Original review ---

My new CZ441 heater was delivered about a week ago. It has been uncommonly cold in the Northeast recently, so I wsa glad to see it and put it to use.

Set up was simple. Out of the box, 5 minutes to read the instructions, and plug it in. I live in an old house (1890) so I was a bit worried about blowing fuses. No problem though. The low setting uses about 1100 watts (10 amps).

The unit was purchased for use in my study, a small room about 10' x 12' in size. The two windows provide nice light, but they leak air, and the room is always cold in the winter (which is about 6 months long here). An adjacent room is the laundry, with an outside door, and it is always cool in there. So a small forced draft electric heater was just what I needed.

It is quite small and light, a bit larger than a loaf of bread. It sits unobtrusively on the floor, pointed slightly upward. The tip over protection switch works very well. The cord is about 6' long. None of the exterior surfaces or the handle get warm, let alone hot, even after hours of continuous use. My dog likes to lay right in front of it, a couple of feet away.

I have found that it is most effective when it is placed about 5' away from where I'm sitting, pointed directly at me. The fan is a bit noisier than I would like, but it is "white" noise, so I don't notice it unless someone in another part of the house is trying to talk to me. Voices are somewhat difficult to hear over the noise. Without the fan running, hearing would be no problem.

We have a dog that sheds hair (don't they all?), so the idea of a cleanable filter was a plus. However, the "filter" is not very durable, and it will die or be lost long before the heater is used up. When it fails I will use the heater without a filter. Pity.

The description of the unit says it has a "thermostat." This is the reason why I give it 3 stars rather than more. The thermostat is such poor quality that it severely limits the usefulness of the heater. Simply put, the deadband is far too narrow to control the room temperature. The slightest turn on the knob goes from always off to always on.

The heater has two power settings, low and high. On the high setting the heater will run for perhaps 30 seconds, then shut off for a long time. On the low setting the heater either runs continuously, or not at all.

I consider the too sensitive thermostat to be a major flaw. The heater is essentially unusable on the high power setting. So I cannot recommend that you buy one of these units. I'm not so dissatified that I will return it, but I am diappointed in the poor quality.
